Torsten Suel is an Associate Professor in the Department of 
Computer and Information Science at Polytechnic University 
in Brooklyn.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of 
Texas at Austin, and joined Polytechnic University in 1998 
after postdoctoral work at the NEC Research Institute, UC 
Berkeley, and Bell Labs. Prof. Suel's research interests are 
in algorithms, databases, distributed computing, and 
information retrieval. His main research focus is currently 
in the area of web search engines and search technology.
